  War lifts me from the counter and carries me into the walk-in shower. He sets me down and doesn’t release me until he’s sure I’m steady and can stand on my own. Then he proceeds to wash my hair and body. I told him I could do it on my own, but he shook his head and kept washing me. That’s when I soaped up a loofa and started washing him as well. It’s the most intimate moment I’ve ever shared with him. After rinsing off, we made love in the shower, War holding me up against the wall as he took me over the edge.

  When we got out of the shower, he wrapped a towel around his waist before drying me off. He put me in one of his white t-shirts and tucked me into bed before going to check in on Walker. He came back a while later and when I asked what took so long, he said he was just enjoying watching his son sleep.

  War isn’t a perfect man, but he’s perfect for Walker and me. He’s everything I could have hoped for and more. I’m just blessed he picked me too.

  It’s been twelve years since I walked into the diner on that fateful day and met Magnolia. I hadn’t planned on finding a woman, but I did. I found the most perfect woman. Our time apart didn’t lessen our feelings for each other, it only strengthened them.

  Our lives aren’t nearly as exciting as that first day back in each other’s arms. These days Magnolia is happy to be at home raising our children. She enjoys her time out with Mom, Parker, and Birch, but is always excited to get back to me and the kids.

  After I had been home for a month, we found out we were pregnant with our second child, Aiden. Once he was born, it didn’t take long before she was pregnant again with our daughter Rachel. We were happy and our family felt complete, but a few years later our fourth child was born. Gabriel is the baby of the family and is the funniest kid I know. Walker is still wearing a smile most of the time. He’s quiet and protective of our family. Aiden is loud and can be kind of obnoxious, but he’s smart as hell. He and Walker are best friends. Rachel is a Daddy’s girl but still likes to rough house with her brothers and tell them what to do.

  The police were never able to figure out who shot and killed Tucker and Magnolia’s father. The deduced it had to be someone with a sniper rifle and never thought to look at women. Parker never came out and admitted it to me, but we had a moment a couple of days after the shooting. She asked me how things were going with the investigation and curiously asked who I thought the shooter could be. I gave her a look and she smiled and walked out of the room telling me I was lucky I had someone looking out for me. I am lucky because I had no idea how I was going to make it out of there.

  I still work with my dad, but these days I’m in charge and he consults when I need him to. Magnolia learned from my mother not to ask too many questions about what we do when we’re gone during the day. After getting to know my family, I don’t think it bothers her. If it does, she’s never brought it up to me.

  I’m still a protective asshole who tells her and our children what to do, but with my job, that’s the way it has to be. Sometimes I do bad things because I have to. The way I look at it, we’re the ones who keep the peace around here. If not for us, we’d live in chaos.

  Magnolia was always going to be mine, but I thank god she was there waiting for me outside the prison that day to bring me home.
